The north-east has a great culture around the written and spoken word. Here are just some of the regular nights in the region (not including our own Holmeside Writers, which has it's own page)

Sunderland's own open mic night: all welcome. 
Come along just to listen, or to read to a supportive and welcome audience. 
Takes place on the second Thursday of every month, 7pm-9pm in the mighty Pop Recs, Sunderland [MAP].



Feature 2

The Stanza is a Third Thursday Poetry and Spoken Word event held at The Exchange on Howard Street in North Shields.[MAP]

With resident houseband Renata and Trev and hosts Mandy Maxwell and Andrew Down. Open mic spots and a super supportive audience.

Supporting new voices in the North East.

Doors at 7pm, £3 entry, starts at 7.30pm


Feature 3

Open at Pop Recs is a brand new free monthly night at 7pm on the fourth Wednesday of each month, that gives you an opportunity to perform or share what you do to a relaxed audience of fellow creatives, we welcome, spoken word, prose, music, singing, dance, performance art, magic, comedy, juggling, you name it we're open to it. A chance to test out new ideas and just generally for us all to enjoy what each other does. Open reflects the attitude of Pop Recs in it's aims and objectives to be an open, inclusive and supportive space. Highly polished professionalism is absolutley not a necessity. you are also more than welcome to attend just to watch.
