About
This is Iain Rowan’s website. I grew up in Kent but now live in the north-east of England, near the sea but not yet near enough. I’m married with two children. I have a job, but this website is not about that. I also write stuff. This website, and my blog, is about that.
I was shortlisted for the 2006 Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger for my then novel-in-progress, ONE OF US, and am now represented by the literary agents Gregory and Company and am working on my next novel, working title CALENTURE. You can read the first chapter of ONE OF US here.
I’ve got a couple of short stories coming up for publication: A WALK IN THE PARK will appear in Alfred Hitchcock’s, and THERE STOOD THE DEAD will appear in Apparitions, an anthology that Mike Kelly is putting together.
To date I’ve had over thirty short stories published in some interesting places. LILIES was shortlisted for the BFS Best Short Story of 2004, and has been reprinted in ‘Best New Horror 16’, and the Mexican anthology ‘SOMBRA DEL ARBOL DE LA NOCHE’. THE CHAIN was voted in the top ten stories of the year by EQMM readers. ONE STEP CLOSER won the 2005 Derringer Award (Best short story, mid-length).
Some of my short crime fiction is available online: ONE STEP CLOSER, THE MOTH, CHAIRMAN OF THE BORED and GAME ON. I’ve also put some of the flash fiction that I’ve written online here.
Non-fiction: I’ve also written a number of book reviews, and edited the Fall 2005 issue of the noir/hardboiled crime zine Hardluck Stories. I’ve also written fiction and non-fiction articles for a literacy project for grade 3-9 children in the US.
